The Djukun are the legally recognised Rubibi Traditional Owners of the Broome Peninsula. The traditional Djukun name for Broome is known to the Djukun as Jirrnginngan. Jirrnginngan was the main rubibi (waterhole), which is buried beneath the Roebuck Bay Hotel.
This website is about our connection to Jirrnginngan, Djukun Country and contains information and resources about our culture, and our language.
In our culture, we have been custodians of this Country since the Creation Ancestor, came out of the ocean onto the land at Minyirr.
